  Expurgatory are a Melbourne (Australia) based depressive rock four-piece with strong black metal influences that started in 2013 as a dsbm two-piece with strong noise influences.
  
  This compilation charts the first half decade of the band’s life, with tracks progressing in reverse chronological order from the Joyless and Katatonia sounds of the present day to the Wold and Urfaust referring intensities of the earlier releases.
  
  In many senses this compilation contains what can now be referred to as the erstwhile bedroom period of the band, with most pieces being layered together at a distance (many as far afield as London).
  
  All of the current line-up daylight in industries closely tied with the library world, and the name comes from a now (thankfully) ceased list of books the Catholic Church insisted not be read
